Sonya Mocks

Commissioner

Sonya Mocks is a retired educator with 28 years of teaching and instructional coaching experience. She currently serves as a Support Specialist with the State Department of Education, where she facilitates statewide professional development. Additionally, Sonya is an independent consultant, providing instructional support to classroom teachers.

A proud alumna of Alabama State University, Sonya earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Educational Administration. In her retirement, she remains dedicated to educational intervention by offering ELA, Literacy, and Skills courses for underrepresented students in the tri-county area, continuing her lifelong commitment to learning, teaching, and fostering community partnerships.

Sonya is actively involved in community service throughout the Montgomery River Region. Known for her love of people and her passion for helping others, she is a dedicated member of St. Paul AME Church, famously known as the home church of Rosa Parks.

In her personal life, Sonya enjoys spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, and her dog, Blu.
