Dr. John F. Knight, Jr.

Chairman

Dr. John F. Knight, Jr. currently serves as the Chairman of the Montgomery Housing Authority. A dedicated public servant and advocate for quality-of-life issues such as decent wages, adequate health care, affordable housing, and quality public education, Dr. Knight has a distinguished career in public service and community leadership.

He served as the State Representative for Alabama’s 77th House District from 1993, contributing to the Ways and Means General Fund, Health (Ranking Minority Member), and Montgomery County Legislation committees. Prior to his role as a State Representative, Dr. Knight served as a member of the Montgomery County Commission from 1980 to 1992.

Dr. Knight also served as Chairman of the Montgomery County Democratic Conference, Southern Development Council, and Kershaw YMCA. Additionally, he has been actively involved in various boards, including the Montgomery Improvement Association and Leadership Montgomery, and is a member of Leadership Alabama.

Professionally, he served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Alabama State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Alabama State University in 1974 and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Alabama A&M University.

A decorated Vietnam War veteran, Dr. Knight remains committed to public service and community engagement. In his personal time, he enjoys family life and is an avid golfer.
