Sonya Mocks

Commissioner

Sonya Mocks is a retired educator with 28 years of teaching and instructional coaching experience. She is a Support Specialist with the State Department of Education, facilitating statewide professional development. Sonya also serves as an independent consultant providing support to classroom teachers. Sonya is a proud alumna of Alabama State University, having obtained both a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Educational Administration. In her retirement, she continues to be an educational interventionist by offering ELA, Literacy, and Skills courses for underrepresented students in the tri-county area. This allows her to continue impacting lifelong learning, teaching, and community partnerships. Sonya engages in community service throughout the Montgomery River Region in her free time. She has a love for people and enjoys helping others. She can also be found supporting the membership of her church, St. Paul AME Church (the home church of Rosa Parks), and spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and her dog Blu.
